My start in art :)

The splendors and miseries of modern painters

I already told you that I’m learning to paint. Of course, I wouldn’t have been able to even enter the art college without having at least the basic level of painting talent, but I always strive for more 🙂 So now, when I don’t have to spend all my free time preparing for the exams, I decided to ‘upgrade’ that skill of mine 🙂 Let me tell you, it turned out to be much harder than I expected. But also much more exciting! 🙂 There are so many nuances to consider! As a big fan of contemporary art, I naturally thought it to be more about letting yourself go than pulling yourself together 🙂 Well, I was wrong 🙂 Even if you paint Richter-style abstractions with a squeegee, you still need thorough knowledge of how to mix paints and combine colors otherwise you’ll end up simply making a mess of your room 🙂 Also, it is not the squeegee that’s so cool, but the hand that moves it 🙂 Developing a viable painting technique might take years and perfecting it might take even more. That’s why I particularly adore artists whose manner is immediately recognizable and impossible to mistake for anyone else’s. And there is a name I’d like to share with you 🙂

Colors of passion

Today I want to discuss an amazing painting I stumbled upon in the internet. Here it is – ‘Last Kiss’ (original, artist Leonid Afremov). This canvas caught my eye as I was surfing the web. Once I saw it, I totally forget what I was looking for 🙂 It depicts a couple of lovers kissing passionately amidst a cloud of colorful sparks. Although the theme is quite common, just look at the way it’s implemented!

  • The palette is incredibly rich and vibrant; bright strokes of paint cover the entire canvas like a patchwork and it seems there is so much color the painting is going to explode any second 🙂
  • The artist uses a spectacular technique applying the paint in short swishy strokes rather than creating smooth, complete shapes. We can’t even clearly trace out the silhouettes of the heroes that merge into the background. Reminds me of classic Impressionists with their broken contours.
  • Because of that, the scene looks very dynamic and emotional. There is a sense of movement in the picture; the couple seems to be swept up by the whirlpool of passion and the entire world seizes to exist until they are lost in this one last kiss.

Original artist like Leonid Afremov definitely deserves your attention! If you love modern art, bright colors and unusual painting techniques, his works will make a great addition to your favorite list 🙂

How to eat like a pro :)

We are what we eat. This proverb is probably hundreds of years old, but we keep totally disregarding it. Meanwhile, our body and brain suffer because of poor nutritional choices we make. Have you ever thought about the amount of sugars and fats you consume? Ok, all that ‘mind what you eat’ babble might seem irrelevant and far-fetched to you, but let me pass you the healthy diet challenge I’m currently taking 🙂 I promise you, it’s quite easy and won’t take too much time or effort. Grab a notebook or open a new text file and write down everything you put in your mouth during a week. After than period, use one of the many web services to calculate the amount of calories and nutrients you consumed every day and during the entire week. The numbers will probably shock you! That’s because we aren’t fully aware of the chemical composition of the products we buy. An innocent portion of tomato paste can actually contain up to ten spoons of sugar! And while your palates will definitely love it and crave for more, a topping like that will definitely do no good to your insides. I won’t repeat what’s already been said thousands of times about the detrimental effects of excessive sugar and fat consumption. I’m simply gonna give you a link to a very useful video that helped me set up my own meal plan I’ve been following it for two weeks and I can tell you I’m feeling much better now. I even lost three kilos although I’ve never been overweight. So why don’t you try it too and share your results right below this post? 🙂

Hi, folks from around!

I’m Christie Jenkins, a former art college student from Baltimore and now officially an interior designer at a local studio 🙂 It’s been a hard year, but I made it! 🙂 It’s so nice to realize that your effort has paid off and all those sleepless nights, restless weeks and personal sacrifices weren’t for nothing! What can I say, I’m a really hard-working person. I want everything in my life to be perfect, from my professional skills to the color of my shoes. When someone asks me about my hobby, I usually say I enjoy ‘upgrading’ 🙂 We rarely think about it, but there are actually so many sides of our life that can be improved! I love taking various classes, attending all sorts of seminars and learning new things. Right now I’m trying my hand at painting and participating in a ‘healthy diet’ challenge 🙂 More on that in my next posts!
